Etiquette Policy
Net Etiquette: Code of Conduct:
Code of conduct for TigerLily Users

Respect: Give others the same respect you would want for yourself. Remember everyone has something they feel strongly about. It is ok. But we hear one another better when we handle one another with respect and decency. Therefore, respect is at the base of all we do at TigerLily Book Club.

Privacy: We always respect each other’s right to share about themselves or not to share about themselves. Members’ privacy is important, secured, and never transgressed at TigerLily.

Facts: Check facts when you post and repost. An opinion is fine but let an opinion be an opinion. When claiming a statement to be factual, be prepared to back it up.

Religious Content: At TigerLily we respect all religions, forms of spirituality, or personal choice to have no religious denomination or spiritual philosophy. Your right to believe in a religion or not believe in a religion is part of your private life. The TigerLily forum will not be used to religiously persuade a person one way or another. If we do come upon religious content in literature, it will be handled professionally, respectfully, academically, and objectively. Any breech of this code will be addressed tactfully, but directly.

Political Content: At TigerLily, as with the topic of religion, we respect all political affiliations. We invite all political parties to be here. We discriminate against no one in any political fashion. This platform will never be used for a personal political debate. We frown upon this platform being used for any degrading comments against persons in politics or political candidates running for office. So please, respect one another’s privacy and rights to their own political affiliations. If we come upon political content in literature, it will be handled professionally, respectfully, academically, and objectively. Any breech of this code will be addressed tactfully, but directly.

Honoring Pronouns Individuals Wish to Use for Themselves: She, He, Nonbinary (They): At TigerLily, adhering to our code of respect among peers, we do honor a person's decision to be addressed as "he", "she", or "they" (the nonbinary term for an individual). Our members take comfort in this respectful environment. If a member insists on purposely and blatantly disregarding a member's identification, membership will be revoked.

Non-Discriminatory Base of TigerLily: At TigerLily bring your mind, your ideas, and thoughts. This is a safe environment to expand your knowledge, practice analytical skills, increase your vocabulary, have fun, and grow as people. We will not tolerate discrimination of gender, sexual identity, race, ethnicity, religious origin, nationality, politics, or handicaps. We pride ourselves on delivering a safe, enriching environment and we expect nothing less than the support of that culture via our members.

LGBTQ Rights: We respect all LGBTQ rights in this community, as they are persons deserving to be respected for the content of mind and good integrity of self. As long as a member is respectful of everyone, they are welcome here. We do not discriminate against the LGBTQ community in TigerLily. The only thing we ask of anyone is to respect everyone.

Vulgarity and Profanity: We are asking that members sincerely try to avoid using profanity in discussion.

Soliciting/Inviting Member(s): Kept simply, our organization is not for assisting in one's dating search. Soliciting members to meet in a location is unsafe. The organization's platform cannot support these chances. If a member solicits another member on site, they will be warned once by admin. If it continues, the person's membership will be revoked immediately. Come to discuss literature with a community. Soliciting members is highly prohibited within the TigerLily Book Club organization. Keep it respectful. Thank you.

Abusive Conduct: Here at TigerLily we have a zero-tolerance policy for attacking or abusive conduct towards any member. If there is abusive conduct used by any member to degrade or harass another member (once the member has stated that they do not want to continue with discussion with the individual in question) if that person continues to cross boundaries and abuse, the individual’s membership will be revoked.
Note: Keep in mind, if someone says they’d prefer to not discuss a topic anymore, tell them to have a nice day and let it go. Or simply let the issue go. It all goes back to our base of respect at TigerLily.

..and most of all, enjoy this experience. It’s a unique forum with a vast variety of intelligent people. It’s a treasure trove of quality minds put together with love of literature and analysis. This is a quality opportunity that I hope we all take advantage of for our own enjoyment and personal enrichment at the end of the day.

Membership Maintenance
New Members to TigerLily Book Club:
For our newest TLBC members, there is an Initiatory Period consisting of two parts:
(1.) new members' first two weeks of orientation which requires you to complete starter requisites [Part One]
(2.) new members completing participation requisites for your first book. [Part Two]
Part One: Confirmation and Library Addition/3 Books
a. Confirmation of membership/Account Activation : TLBC administration will send an email to you requesting confirmation of your new membership. You will be required to respond to this email within 72 hours to confirm new membership status.
b. Your three book suggestions (for the library): You will be asked to suggest three books which will be placed in our TLBC library to go under the heading of "Member's Choice" books. All members have contributed to the library collection, therefore we will ask you to suggest three books for our TLBC library. Your request should be sent to TLBC administration at tigerlilybookclub@outlook.com . Try to get your three book suggestions sent to admin within your first two weeks with the organization.

Part Two: Participation

The member is to participate in 75% of discussion weeks for their first book. Choose one of our three selections coming-up at the time of joining, and start with your first read with our organization. Participation includes:

a. A new post.
b. A comment to an existing post.
c. Adding a comment to a topic-starter thread. (a preexisting thread)

These posts can be as little as three lines. What is important is your participation.

After part 1 and 2 of requisites are completed, the new member's status will graduate to Official TLBC Member. The new official member will receive benefits: their own member introduction page, promotional gifts, ability to help design our official reading list, and having a say/a vote in the general structure and adjustments made in our organization.

For new members, failure to complete orientation requisites will terminate the account. If there is an issue that is hindering you from completing your requisites please contact TLBC administration at tigerlilybookclub@outlook.com or call (505) 358-6264 and speak with Melanie. Adjustments can always be made if you reach-out.
Maintaining Basic Membership: Participate in Every Fourth Book, Minimum.
In order to maintain/keep your membership with TigerLily, we require that our official members participate in every fourth book, at least. If more than three books are skipped in a row, membership is revoked. This serves to support our literary community, and keeping the community proactive, which benefits every member.

We Create Our Own Yearly Reading Agenda:
The club votes-in the books they would like placed on our reading list. This process makes up our official book list per year. Official Members partake in this process.

Skipping Selections:
Because our club supports a multi-genre agenda, official members have the right to skip literature in support of personal preferences. Because the club is based in participation, the amount of books skipped is limited. Here is more detail on the subject:

Skipping Selection(s):
Official members may skip up-to three reading selections in a row, then get involved in the fourth book. One book can take up to two months of discussion, so skipping more than three books could have you out of activity for well over five months. For this reason, we ask members to skip no more than three selections in a row. Excessive absence from club activities (skipping four books or more) will result in account termination. There is an option if you need to take an extended time off of the club. The option is: Inactive status. The next section discusses Inactive Status.
Inactive Status:
For the condition of inactive status, upon request, entails a person's membership being held in a paused-condition for up to one year. You will still receive newsletters and updates if you request to receive updates, but you will not be active with the organization. Inactive status can be used for up-to twelve months, consecutively. If a member exceeds the twelve-month period without notifying and rejoining club activity, their membership will be revoked. We urge members to take the inactive status if there is an emergency for a significant period of time. So if needed due to personal life conditions (as happens time to time), use the inactive status option.

Tips for Managing Being in a Book Club
Tips for Managing Being in a Book Club:

Book Quantity:

Invest in a Tablet or Kindle:
For many who maintain membership with a book club for a significant amount of time, making a small investment in a Kindle or a Tablet from Apple or Samsung, is the best way to go in order to control book volume. An electronic library of books could be the right answer for you if you don’t mind reading your book on a computer: Supplied by Best Buy or Amazon.com .
Note: The Kindle app can be downloaded on your tablet or PC, which could be convenient. It costs $0.00.

Hardcover or Paperback books:
Some books are not available in electronic format, or, you just might prefer a hardcover or paperback book. If this is the case, space and volume become an issue as your library grows. In this scenario we suggest you deal with a bookstore that purchases used books from customers and buys books from customers used and give store credit. Also you can donate books to Goodwill.
Audiobooks:
If a person prefers to listen to their book instead of reading it, it is perfectly fine to use an audiobook with our club. Audible is a audio book source that may be accessed on Amazon.com. If you are interested in an audio book source here is the Audible link on Amazon:

Local Library Source:
A great source for getting your books for free and being able to return them (no build up of books) is to access your local library. The postive side of this route is you get to return the book to the library and it's free. The down side of a library rental is you have a limited amount of time with the book before you have to go renew your rental. If you forget the rental date you will have to pay a fine for your late book. Another down side is if you like the book you cannot keep it of course. Yet, your local library is an excellent source of borrowing a book and simply returning it!
TimeTimeTime: Managing Time and Reading
Plan your reading sessions: The volume we read per week requires a few hours over one or two days maximum. Our reading pace is around 55-65 pages per week, broken up into chapters or page-count per week. If you plan to give yourself some quiet time for a few hours a week with a beverage and a comfortable seat, it should be a time for quality entertainment and personal enjoyment with your book. So you need to have at least a few hours a week available to sit and take-in a good book (or listen to audio versions while driving, or cooking, etc.) Which ever you prefer.

When is it best to post?:
It is best to post at the beginning of the posting window for discussions. For our club that would be on the weekend. The posting period runs from Friday till next Thursday night (seven days.) However, practically, sometimes busyness happens and your posting may be pushed back a day or so. That is fine. Just remember that the idea of posting is to have others read your ideas and talk to you about them. Sharing is the way the community works. So aim to post at the beginning of the posting period, on the weekend. Use the rest of the period to talk with your peers, agree, and/or respectfully debate and bring unique perspectives.
